It has been a tough couple of weeks for my Chicago LGBTQ fam. As you all know we lost Elise but we also lost another Black trans woman Tatiana Labelle, 33, also known as  “Tee Tee”. Tatiana was reported missing by her family and days later she was found dead on the southside of Chicago.

Family, this is your favorite queer radio personality Anna DeShawn here with our queer news from today.

Her death has been ruled a homicide which is just incredibly sad. Her family is looking for answers and of course incredibly devastated. She has been deadnamed throughout the media which is sadly the case for so many of our trans siblings. It took me a minute to really find her. Last year was the deadliest year on record for our trans fam. There are 57 deaths on record and 7 so far this year.  The total in any year is likely much higher, given that many trans people are misgendered or deadnamed by police and media, or that their deaths are not reported at all. Most of the victims the decade since activists and LGBTQ+ media have been reporting on these deaths have been Black or Latinx women. Tatiana we speak your name.

Family, I also want you to know that Elise’s family has started a GoFundMe to help with her funeral expenses and could really use our support. I’ve included a link in the show notes. If you have a few dollars to give please consider it.

Now we always end with a word and today’s word is just do it. I’m currently sitting in a hotel room in LA recording this episode as I’m attending a podcasting conference this week. This is my first time traveling and working to keep the podcast consistent. I’m not going to lie, this is a whole situation and I’m encouraged that it can be done. It might be a little shorter as I am a one person band for now but sometimes “just do it” has to be your attitude. Nothing is your way but you.

Till tomorrow, family. Peace.
