It’s lesbian visiblity week and we are celebrating our lesbian fam all week long. This is Ariana DeBose’s season as she’s been booked for another hot role. I got to chat with RC Riley about her upcoming live podcast recording on mental health awareness for the QTPOC community.

Family, did you know that Illinois has the third largest movie and recording workforce in the country? Did you also know that 51% of the production crews are made up of women and people of color? Chicago’s TV and film industry is fueling all 50 wards, creating 20K+ jobs, & making a financial impact of $700 million dollars. So visit ChicagoMade.us to learn more. We are Chicago Made. Now let’s go!

It’s lesbian visiblity week! What a great opportunity to center & celebrate some of my fav lesbians. Over the last decade or so many of us a reclaimed the word queer and choose to identify as such. Many feel we’ve left our lesbian identities behind. I will say that I use to identify as a lesbian and many years ago chose the word queer instead. I feel lesbian has a definition that  wasn’t expansive enough for how to see I see my sexual orientation. All that said if someone calls me a lesbian its cool with me. I love women and my lesbian fam. This week has been revived by DIVA, the world’s leading magazine for LGBTQI women and non-binary people which is based in the UK. Led by Linda Riley who publishes the magazine also dropped the pride power list designed to uplift, spotlight and show wider solidarity with LGBTQI women and non-binary people. I’ve included the list in the show notes if you want to check it out.  So this week I will be highlighting my fav lesbians, couples, podcasts, etc. For today the message is simple, Happy Lesbian Visibility Week!

In entertainment news, I do declare this is Ariana DeBose’s season. She swept the award season for her role as Anita in West Side Story which culminated in her winning an Academy Award for her role. This subsequently made her the first queer person of color to win an Oscar. Now she is set to star in a queer romantic comedy called “Two and Only”. According to Deadline, this rom-com is being described as a bisexual Latinx take on the 90s classic My Best Friend’s Wedding. I love love a good rom-com and then to make it queer. I’m here for this! There isn’t date set for when it will drop in theaters but you know I’ll keep you posted.

Our last story for today is an interview I did with RC Riley of the Be Empowered podcast. She’s putting on an event that I wanted to tell you more about. Take a listen.

I hope y’all enjoyed the interview and I have included a link to the eventbrite in the show notes in case you’re interested in going. What’s better than a live podcast, mimosas & massages at the same time #ijs

Let’s close out the podcast today with a word from a quote I keep on my wall. It says be stronger than your excuses. It’s Monday and goodness knows days like today can be filled with all types of excuses. It was a long weekend and I don’t feel like doing nothing. Or Oh that can wait till tomorrow it’s just not in me today. Don’t do it. Stop yourself mid sentence and reframe. It was a long weekend and I’m not doing it now but I will later today. Or that can wait for a few minutes while I get myself together. Don’t push things off. All that is guaranteed is today. Be stronger than the excuse. You’ve got this. ill tomorrow family, peace
