Family, this is your favorite queer radio personality Anna DeShawn with our queer news for today. Now, if you enjoy what you hear please consider joining the QCrew. The QCrew is our monthly membership program we just started to help us grow the podcast. I want to bring on a producer, an editor, and travel around the country to tell our stories. If you’re down with it check the link in the show notes for more information. Now for the news.
Brittney Griner has been wrongfully detained for 110 days, Lil Nas X gets snubbed by BET and he had something to say about it & Angelica Ross dropped a new single exclusively on xoNecole for the summer.
So family, Sunday night I attended a call by Win with Black Women & I had the opportunity to hear from the people working everyday to bring Brittney Griner home including her wife & Angela Rye. I was incredibly moved and even more fired up to continue amplifying her name. The goal now is to get her wife in front of President Biden to urge him to get Brittney home. So I am committing to sharing the number of days she has been detained until she comes home. We cannot forget. We will not forget. If mainstream media isn’t going to do it we will. Today is day 109 that Brittney Griner has been wrongfully detained. Bring BG home because we are BG.
In entertainment news, Lil Nas X calls out BET on Twitter for not nominating him for any awards this year. Now this is a pretty valid call out as Montero had 3 tracks on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Ya’ll know that the whole album was lit so it is a pretty obvious snub. In now deleted tweets, Lil Nas said, “i just feel like black gay ppl have to fight to be seen in this world and even when we make it to the top [motherf**kers] try to pretend we are invisible.” Do you all remember his performance at the last BET awards though? The one where he kissed one of his males dancers. Y’all know folks weren’t happy about that rite. People actually complained to the FCC. So did it have something to do with that? Who knows but if you get nominated for a grammy I don’t see a reason why you wouldn’t get nominated for a BET award #ijs
In more music news, Angelica Ross has dropped a new single called “Only You”. You all know Angelica from Pose where she played Candy. That role changed her career no doubt about it. When I met Angelica many many moons ago in Chicago she was singing and singing with her guitar. So I am always thrilled when I see that she’s dropped some new music. Last year she dropped “Fierce” , a pop club banger which we of course played on the station, E3 Radio. Now it’s “Only You” and this one is a ballad that she says was an emotional experience to record. She goes on to say, “It reawakened the songstress in my soul and affirmed for me that sometimes timing is everything.” Timing is everything so definitely get into it because it’s a good track and for the video is really well done. Support. We all we got.
Let’s close out with our word for today. Today’s word is a quote from Audre Lorde that says, “Caring for myself is not self-indulgence. It is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare”. I want you to take care of yourselves and I promise I will too. Till Monday family, peace.
