Family, it’s your favorite queer radio personality Anna DeShawn and this is Queer News. Your fav weekly news pod where race & sexuality meet politics, culture, and entertainment.

As promised I want to answer the questions you left for me in the survey. You all took the time and I want to take the time too. First question, “I am detailed oriented and noticed that the podcast description in different podcast players still say that the news is brought daily and has not been updated.   Also I do not understand what E3 radio is?  Is it a physical radio station?” Yes this has been frustrating for me too. It turned out there was a description override in Libsyn that needed to be updated. I’ve double checked and it should say weekly across all players now. And for E3 Radio. E3 Radio is the online radio station I started back in November 2009. It’s taken on many different formats over the years. Today we play queer music all day long and we produce this podcast under E3 Radio. Thanks for the question. I really appreciate it.

I also want to share a couple of wonderful updates. First, I won a Sonic Boom podcasting award at the ShePodcasts conference. I won in their News Ninja category which is pretty dope. I love the name too by the way. I was nominated alongside The Newsworthy hosted by Erica Mandy & Diabetes Connections hosted by Stacey Simms. Two other great pods for you to check out. Also, big ups to my friend Nicole who accepted the award on my behalf. I also want to say thank you to ShePodcasts and Kasa Media Productions for starting these awards celebrating women and non-binary folks in podcasting. This space is so needed. Now the next great news is that I have been accepted as a CNP Narrative Justice Fellow. This 3 month program that aims to change public policy regarding HIV and HIV criminalization by changing the narrative about Black gay, bisexual and queer men, and the larger Black LGBTQAIA+ community. CNP has been doing the good work for 10 years this year. 10 years! I’m sharing this news because through the fellowship I’ll be creating two special edition episodes this month sharing stories of Black queer folks who’ve been impacted by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. I hope you all tune-in for those on the feed as one will drop on the 16th and the other on the 23rd.

It’s that time to talk about the QCrew! We’ve had 7 new members join us in January. Welcome MJ, Pamela, Taishya, Crystal, Sangeeta, Reginald.  Thank y’all so much for supporting the work of this podcast. Our Queer News community receives a weekly email sharing our top queer news stories, an unedited video from me about our top stories, and now first dibs on our exclusive interviews. The QCrew helps to supplement the costs of pod; podcast hosting, editing, marketing, PR, travel, etc. If you believe in the work we do. If you believe LGBTQ stories need to be amplified. If you love and respect how I report on the news and tell our stories, join the QCrew. A link is in the show notes.

Now for the news. In politics, anti-trans legislation is defeated in Iowa. Finally some good news to share. While Florida is still up to its same sheningages. While in Georgia, a gender affirming clinic was set on fire. In culture & entertainment, I attended “The Advocate Educator’s Handbook” book launch here in Chicago, Baylor is retiring Brittney Griner’s jersey, Amber Glenn makes history in figure skating and Victoria Monet makes history in music. There are a couple more stories in here too. Let’s just jump right on in. Let’s go!
