Once again Karine Jean-Pierre makes history. This time as the first Black woman and the first LGBTQ person to serve as the White House Press Secretary. A Roe v. Wade rally took place downtown Chicago and they don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. Taco Bell is showing their support for the LGBTQ community with a five city Drag Brunch Tour.

Now, Karine Jean-Pierre period. She is our leading story as she continues to make history with every single move she makes. Most recently and most notably becoming the first Black woman and the first out LGBTQ person to hold the position of White House Press Secretary. We could be here all day reciting her list of accomplishments. Like for real but just to name a few. She currently serves as the Deputy White House Press Secretary. She served as VP Kamala Harris’ chief of staff, for which she was the first Black person to be in that position for a VP candidate. In 2021, she was also the first Black woman to lead a White House press briefing since Judy Smith in 1991. Y’all know Judy Smith, right? She is the real person behind Kerry Washington’s character Olivia Pope on Scandal. Judy Smith is the real “fixer”. Karine was the national spokesperson for MoveOn and worked in the Obama administration, and there is so much more but like I said we would be here all day. What I found so dope about this transition was the clear love and respect between Jen Psaki & Karine. Take a listen to Jen passing the torch to her. [play clip] Simply put she is the real deal and I cannot wait for her clap backs with Fox News. I’m sure they will be epic.

Over the weekend, here in Chicago folks gathered downtown to march and rally for abortion rights. This Roe v. Wade mess is so troubling for me but I am encouraged that the state of Illinois is standing up and saying we will be a place where women will continue to have the right to choose. A state where women will have access to safe abortions. Republicans have been waiting for this moment for nearly 50 years and if it’s a reminder of anything it is that we can never stop fighting. Never. Never get too comfortable that you forget that all of this can change. And believe they are coming for LGBTQ rights next. The writing is on the wall.

In a fun story, Taco Bell has approached being an ally with the LGBTQ community in such a fun way. They are hosting these limited series drag brunches with a 5 city tour. The purpose of the tour is to highlight the It Gets Better Project. The tour kicked off on the Vegas strip and headed to Chicago, Nashville, New York City & Fort Lauderdale. If you want to get it on this visit OpenTable to make your reservation.

Let’s close out the podcast with a word from Karine Jean-Pierre herself. She shared these words after Jen Psaki passed the torch and I thought it was perfect for the word today. Till tomorrow family, peace
