Family, this is your favorite queer radio personality Anna DeShawn with our queer news for today. If you enjoy what you hear please consider joining the QCrew. The QCrew is our monthly membership program we just started to help us grow the podcast. I want to bring on a producer, an editor, and travel around the country to tell our stories. If you’re down with it check the link in the show notes for more information. Now for the news.

It’s been a week and Karine Jean-Pierre has officially completed her first week as the first Black person and first queer person to be the White House Press Secretary. After six years of fighting, U.S. women’s soccer has won the equal pay for their sport. It’s Friday & I’m recommending the WinHers United Podcast & Summit.

It’s been a historic week in the White House has Karine Jean-Pierre finishes up her first week as the first Black person, the first queer person and the first immigrant to be the White House Press Secretary. On her first day she shared this take a listen. Come through with the barrier breakers. She summed that up so well and I can’t wait for her first Fox News clap back.

Next we have to show so much love to the U.S. Soccer team for winning their equal pay fight. And I mean this is clearly queer news has so many on the team are family, duh. Now they have been fighting for six years for something so basic and obviously fair. Especially when we consider how much they have won in comparison to the men who’ve been getting paid more. Hear what Megan Rapinoe had to say while testifying to the Senate.

That is absolutely the only exception. Whats powerful about this story is that the women’s team could have quit after a court ruled agaisnt their claims that the sport had instituationalized gender discrimination. They could have thrown in the towel but they didn’t. Do you know how they won? Because the men’s team agreed with them.  Because the men stood up and said this isn’t right. This is the prime example as to why allyship and comradery are so incredibly important. It was only when the men privately agreed to share the money were they able to move forward. And forward they have. Now the women’ team will be paid at the same rate for game appearances and tournament victories as the men’s team. The new contracts also have a whole new plan on how the World Cup prize money gets redistributed and there are new revenue-sharing agreements. They have set a whole new standard for soccer and hopefully for sports. You know the love of money will have you thinking that you need to hoard it all but you don’t. Sharing the wealth is how we all come up together.

It’s Friday, which means I’m dropping a podcast recommendation for you. Today’s recommendation is WinHersUnited by my homie Nicole Walker. Yes I did recommend her last week but I’m doing it again because I’m so excited for her summit coming up. WinHers United the podcast contains leadership insight, personal experiences, and business expertise from leading WOC Entrepreneurs. During the podcast Nicole talks with some of the very best at what they do and they drop golden nuggets along the way. If you’re an entrepreneur and learn through other people’s experiences this is definitely the podcast for you. Not to mention she has a conference coming up called Pivots are Powerful Virtual Summit June 6-9 from 5-8pm ET. I’ll be there and you should join me. I’ve included links to her podcast and to the summit in the show notes.

Now let’s head into the weekend with this word from Muhammad Ali. He said, “Don’t count the days. Make the days count.” Its so simple & I love this cause we be waiting for Friday no doubt about it but he’s right. We have to make the most out of everyday. So,I hope you have a restful and productive and more restful weekend. Make those days count too. Till Monday family, peace.
