Welcome to our summer interview series. The Queer News team is changing it up for the next couple of months so we have a little more time to enjoy the summer, our families, and rest. We hope you enjoy these conversations with some really wonderful queer folks doing good in the world. Those are the stories we want to amplify here on Queer News.

During the interview series we won’t leave queer news stories on the sidelines either. Anna will provide brief commentary about the top one or two queer news stories happening that we should be following. Not full stories but know we are still closely following the queer news feeds. Family, I hope you had an amazing pride month. I must say I experienced one for the ages. We had the most listens we’ve ever had in one month, with a remarkable number of 6,906 unique listens. Additionally, I had the privilege of introducing the mayor of Chicago at our annual pride reception, and we sold more ads on the podcast than ever before. None of this would have been possible without your support. Thank you.

Now, as we embark on our summer interview series, I want to assure you that we won’t neglect our commitment to delivering the latest queer news. Before each interview, I’ll take a moment to share my thoughts on one or two top stories impacting our community. It has been a devastating week with the Supreme Court’s decisions, from rolling back affirmative action to the country’s free ride to discriminate against LGBTQ individuals. The anger and frustration are palpable, but amidst it all, I find solace in this podcast, in our community. This past weekend at Chicago’s Black Pride, I felt an overwhelming amount of love and support. It was beautiful and served as a reminder that we must lean on each other during these challenging times.

Interviewing is where I started, and it’s been wonderful to engage in conversations with remarkable LGBTQ individuals once again. This week, I had the pleasure of hosting “UNAPOLOGETIC: Being Black and Queer in Podcasting.” Shana and Kris from the Bad Queers pod and Tre’vell Anderson from the FANTI podcast joined me for an insightful and inspiring conversation. We covered topics such as bad queer opinions, queer love complexities, the impact of AI on journalism, and their experiences as Black and queer podcasters. It was a fitting way to kick off our interview series, and I’m excited to announce the lineup soon.

In this moment, I am more determined than ever to amplify our stories and push forward. This is not the time to hide; it’s the time to fight. Together, we can weather these turbulent times by supporting each other and showing up. I’m grateful for the love and support you’ve shown this podcast, and I’m committed to pouring into our community.

Family, I hope you had an amazing pride month. I must say I experienced one for the ages. We had the most listens we’ve ever had in one month. The number is 6,906 unique listens. I got to introduce the mayor of Chicago for our annual pride reception. We sold more ads on the podcast than ever before. We did that. Thank you.

Now it’s time for our summer interview series where I get to spend some time with LGBTQ folks doing good in the world. I want you to know that I’m not leaving our news on the cutting room floor though. Before I jump into any interview I will share my thoughts on one or two top queer news stories that are impacting us. I mean this past week has been quite the devasting ride with the Supreme Court. From rolling back affirmation action, to student loan forgiveness, to the country’s free ride to discriminate against LGBTQ folks. It has been a hell of a week. I don’t know about you but I’m so angry. I’m so fed up. I’m trying to figure out how to channel it all and the one thing I keep coming back to is this podcast. Are my companies. It’s you. I want to pour into us. I felt that this past weekend at Chicago’s Black Pride. We are the only city in the country that does pride and Black pride back to back so please know I am exhausted. But there so much love out there. So much support for each other. It was so beautiful. I want y’all to know thats how we will get through this moment in time. We will need to support each other. We will need to show up for each other. We need to lean on each other. That’s the only way. So I’m going to keep amplifying our stories. I’m going to keep pushing forward and doubling down on the work because one thing I am for sure about. This is not the time to go and hide. This is the time to fight.

Interviewing is where I started so it’s been really nice to be in conversation with folks again in this way. I’ll be announcing the lineup soon enough and for this week I wanted to start with the conversation I had on Thursday; UNAPOLOGETIC: Being Black and Queer in Podcasting. Our guests Shana & Kris from the Bad Queers pod & Tre’vell Anderson of the FANTI podcast joined me for such a wonderful conversation. We talked about bad queer opinions, the ultimatum queer love edition, the impact of AI on journalism & how they all show up being black & queer on their pods. The conversation was so good I thought it was fitting to kick off our interview series. We are going to take a quick break for our sponsors then jump right into the interview. So stay close, I hope you enjoy it & I’ll talk to you next week. Peace.

Special Note:

The transcript is too long to include here so we’ve created a separate page for it. Click here to read along. Thanks for your continued support of the pod.
