Michaela Jae Rodriguez goes live on IG to give her Golden Globe acceptance speech for winning best actress in a television drama series. Delta Airlines still doesn’t include non-binary as a gender marker even if you have the proper ID & documents. Amy Schneider just keeps winning on Jeopardy! Now she’s up to $1 million dollars and 28 consecutive wins.
Our leading story for today is something to celebrate. Michaela Jae Rodriguez won her first Golden Globe last night for best performance by an actress in a Television Series – Drama. This win makes her the first trans person to win a Golden Globe in this category. MJ has been rocking it out for a minute. Ya’ll remember she was the first trans person to be nominated for an Emmy in a major acting category, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. It has been incredibly refreshing to see her work and the work of Pose appreciated in Hollywood. Even if this time around it is by the Golden Globes who has been under some pretty intense scrutiny over the last year for lack of inclusivity and ethics. That’s really at the heart of why it wasn’t aired on television with the big fan fare we’re all used to. The names were read but with no audience and no red carpet. That didn’t stop MJ from showing her appreciation in an Instagram post and by giving an impromptu thank you speech on IG Live. What she has to say gets cut off at the end but you’ll be able to feel her energy through your headphones. Take a listen. “I gotta keep myself together. Okay, so number one. Yeah, no, I haven’t been getting on laugh because I Chow. I’ve been working real hard, but I’m gonna take this moment to say this because I couldn’t really say all of this in a post like I just posted and I’m not gonna repost them. But I have to say this. Number one, thank you Golden Globes. This is for the LGBTQI black, Latina, Asian, the many multiple beautiful colors of the rainbow around the freedom world. This is not just for me. This is for y’all. This is the door that opens for y’all. Not me, for y’all. There are going to be so many young individuals, young, talented, thriving individuals that are going to be able to trail and stone into the door. This is for y’all. I don’t know how many times I have to say, I’m probably going to sound like a broken record. You know, there was no except the speeches, so I’ll give it here. I’m gonna say I’m very thankful to the many beautiful people that came together with this show. Mr. Ryan Murphy. Thank you for actually seeing me Steven canals bits. You wrote the hell out of this show. Miss Jen and Mark, you took it. You swooped it. Bam. Miss child, Todd doesn’t see I’m glad this is not on the stage. Good shot. I will record on the stage. But I will let you j you came in like an angel in the night that you just really graced us with your beautiful writing as well. To my beautiful family Dominique Jackson, hell is the heart Angelica Ross in the freakin”
And Indya freaking Moore is what she said at the end of that clip. Big thanks to Pop Crave for posting that on Twitter. I will say, MJ is always so incredibly humble & gracious. “This is for the LGBTQAI, Black, Latina, Asian [communities], the many multi beautiful colors of the rainbow… This is not just for me, this is for y’all. This is the door that opens for y’all” Yessss MJ, Yessss! Oh and if you haven’t downloaded her music go ahead and do that too. We play it all the time here on E3 Radio and I think you’ll enjoy it.
Our next story is about Delta airlines. A mom was recently trying to purchase a plane ticket for her non-binary child and quickly realized Delta wasn’t going to be the airline. Delta only allows for “male” and “female” gender markers despite years of promises to update their policies. They said in 2018 in an article published by INTO. They said it in 2019 to NBC News and confirmed by the Daily Beast that they were “planning to offer a non-binary gender option during the booking process… to accommodate the needs of a diverse customers throughout our business.” Clearly this was nothing but talk because we’re in 2022 and still nothing has been done. God bless this mom for raising her voice and taking the risk of putting herself out there to the world. She took to Twitter to air her grievances and her tweets have since gone viral. Now Delta can magically have their systems updated by the fourth quarter of 2022. Now Delta did not respond to Dawn’s tweets on Twitter, but told LGBTQ Nation in a statement, “Delta Air Lines is a proud, long-time supporter of the LGBTQ+ community and we understand that being seen and acknowledged is part of having an equitable travel experience. “As such, we have begun the process of updating our booking systems to be more inclusive by offering a non-binary gender option. We expect this option to be available to customers during the fourth quarter of 2022.” Ohhhh moments like this urke me so much because everything shouldn’t be a flight. They knew what needed to be done 4 years ago and it wasn’t a priority until this mom stood up for herself, her child, and every other non-binary customer of Delta. One thing the mom tweeted that really struck me too was when she said, “And even if I could find an airline that would issue a ticket with the correct X gender, @Delta was the least expensive,” … “Why should a #nonbinary #LGBTQ person have to pay MORE in order to be allowed to fly?… that’s discrimination.” Amen mom. Amen.
@Delta is discriminating against #nonbinary individuals and not allowing them to fly despite legal ID issued by states that allow X on birth certificates and state-issued IDs. This thread is the ongoing saga of me trying to purchase a ticket for my non-binary adult child. 1/x

Now at this point we are officially following the ever-evolving Amy Schneider story. She has now reached $1 million dollars in winnings on Jeopardy! She is now at her 28th consecutive victory. This is unprecedented. She is now only the third person in Jeopardy! history to reach the $1 million dollar mark. Amy said, “It feels amazing, it feels strange,” … “It’s not a sum of money I ever anticipated would be associated with my name.” Amy’s streak began on November 17th when she won during Trans Awareness Week and she hasn’t stopped yet. We’ll keep doing our part and following this amazing story.

Well, I've said I usually felt good in the Friday games, and this was certainly no exception! Having seen my streak in danger the game before, I was not to be denied on this one!
