The Wade’s posted a beautiful family Easter pic & Zaya has a boo. The Air Force is allowing their LGBTQ families to relocate out of transphobic states causing them harm. 2022 is the 35th anniversary of the AIDS Memorial Quilt and San Francisco is honoring this moment with the largest quilt display in over a decade.

Yesterday was Easter Sunday or as my Black Christian family says, Resurrection Sunday, okay. It was a beautiful time. My wife styled my mom with a new outfit and jewelry. My mom has early onset and things are increasingly challenging. It’s tough to get her out the house but we made it happen with a little bribery. She looked fabulous per usual and we had a beautiful time at the home church I grew up in. Me, my wife, my dad, my sister came and my nephews as well. This church raised me and this place means a lot to my family. My mom hasn’t been since COVID and they welcomed her back with all the love in their hearts. We followed that with celebrating my aunt’s 70th birthday at her home with all our family that could make it. We laughed a lot, we ate, and we laughed some more. Moments like this are precious. If COVID has taught us anything it’s that none of this is promised. Here today, gone today. We have to hug and love and protect those closest to us in the fiercest way possible. So when I saw the Wade’s post their family Easter pic it just warmed my heart. This is the leading story because they lead with love. They are setting the example for what it means to love unconditionally. Not to mention Zaya brought their boo. I love it! Family over everything.

Next up I want to give a big ups to the United States Air Force. In a recent press release they annouced that due to the various laws and legislation being proposed and passed in states across America that may affet LGBTQ Airmen, Guardians, and/or their LGBTQ dependents in different ways they are offering medical, legal, and relocation assistance to service memebers who’s families have been harmed by anti-trans & anti-lgbt legislation. How dope is that! This type of thing doesn’t happen by accident either. In 2021, President Biden appointed Gina Ortiz Jones, the first out lesbian Under Secretary of the Air Force as well as the first out lesbian to lead any branch of the military. Her mother immigrated here from the Philippines and she served under “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell”. She is the one leading this charge and making a way for her teams to leave these states creating & causing so much harm to LGBTQ folks. She said, “We are closely tracking state laws and legislation to ensure we prepare for and mitigate effects on our Airmen, Guardians and their families…The health, care and resilience of our personnel and their families is not just our top priority – it’s essential to our ability to accomplish the mission.” Come through Under Secretary Ortiz.

Our last story of the day is coming out of San Francisco. They are planning to honor the 35th anniversary of the AIDS Memorial Quilt by hosting a 3,000 panel display of the quilt. Can you imagine how powerful this display will be? 3,000 panels! This will be the largest display in over a decade. The National AIDS Memorial CEO John Cunningham said, “This year’s historic community display will be a beautiful celebration of life and a recognition of the power of the Quilt today as a teaching tool for health and social justice…The Quilt is an important reminder that the HIV/AIDS crisis is still not over and there is much work to be done, particularly in communities of color, where HIV is on the rise in many parts of the country.” The event will take place on June 11th & 12th from 10-5pm in Golden Gate Park. Anyone want to sponsor my trip? I would love to go and report on this historic event.

Let’s close out the podcast with this word. All great weeks start with a Monday. Its so simple while also so easy to forget when you want that extra day. But make it a great Monday. You deserve it. Till tomorrow family, peace
